For this assignment, I used a combination of loops and midi tracks to make my song. I started with a kick drum then added a snare and some high hats. After that, I added some synths and bass. I followed the ab structure.

Loop Song 2
For this assignment, I used loops on soundtrap to make my song. I used a similar ABA structure as the one in the example. I started with a kick drum then added a snare. After that, I found a guitar loop. Then I added another drum beat with a couple of synthesizers. The song ends with a fade-out.
MIDI Song 2
For this assignment I used soundtrap. I used MIDI loops to make the song. I was able to manipulate the key and pitch of the loops. I used a drumbeat, 2 synths, and a bass loop.
Composition & Production Analysis
The song I have chosen to breakdown is “Under the Bridge” by Red Hot Chili Peppers, which was released in 1991.
The song starts with an intro only using a guitar.
Then the song moves on to the first verse with a guitar, playing some chords behind the lyrics.
The second verse comes next, adding a symbol and a snare drum to the beat.
Then the chorus is played with chords and rhythm of snare and a high-hat.
After the chorus, there is a quick interlude played with the main guitar and a bass guitar with the same rhythm played throughout the song leading to the third verse of the song.
Then the second chorus played the same as the first chorus.
Then another quick interlude played with different chords though, to then leed into the bridge following the chord progression of the song.
Finally, the outro comes with a slow fade-out of the final chords.
The chord progression of the song helps reinforce the lyrics and sets the mood of the song. The mood of the song is heavily dependent on the progression of it going up and down between the verses and choruses. Their producer is Rick Rubin and they engineer their own sound.
Song Re-edit
For this assignment, I did a re-edit of “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen. I approached this task by first finding a song I was familiar with and felt like editing. Then to shorten the song I cut off the second portion of it. I manipulated the pitch and keys of the different instruments. I also changed the reverb, tremolo, drive, and tone of the different parts while also adding fade-ins and outs to help it sound cleaner.
Shared Sample
For this assignment, I used the three samples given to me to create 3 different songs that sound different but are recognizable as those 3 samples. The way I changed them was, I made the tempo a little faster, cut some parts of the samples, did some fade-ins and fade-outs, and changed the pitch of each sample. I also manipulated the reverb and treble on some samples.
Music Tech Song Re-edit
For this re-edit, I took a midi file of “Breaking The Habit” by Linkin Park and edited it. The way I went about doing this assignment was finding a song I wanted to work on, then finding a midi file for it to submit to sound trap for editing. Some of the changes I made were changing some keys in the beats to make it sound different, then I cut some parts and added some fade-ins and fadeouts along with some other effects.
Music Genre Assignment
The genre I like the most is rock and the genre I don’t know enough about is jazz.
Similarities:
- They use some similar instruments
- rock came from forms of jazz
Differences:
- jazz came before rock in the early part of the 20th century
- Rock came around the 1950s
- Jazz is a lower pitch genre were rock is loud
Self Remix
I remixed my drumb beat by adding a new beat. This beat help speed it up and made it sound better.
Real vs Hyperreal vs Surreal
Real
This is a live performance where all of the sounds are being played live and sound realistic.
Hyperreal:
It seems real but he is actually lip-synching to the studio recording, which makes it sound better and feel real.
Surreal:
A surreal recording is one that could not have been recorded using live instruments. You can usually tell when the sounds are mostly just electronic and are manipulated. It would be completely different if it was done with real instruments
